Master’s and Ph.D. Students

Instituto Biofisika (IBF) welcomes undergraduate students from all disciplines to apply for a position in one of the many Master’s and Ph.D. programmes, organised with the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Some of the most common programmes include Molecular Biology and Biomedicine, Chemistry and Polymers, Philosophy, Science and Values and Biomedical Research

These programmes provide an exciting opportunity to gain hands on research experience in laboratories led by Instituto Biofisika researchers (see Research Lines), receive training and mentoring in research, and the development of transferable skills.

Several opportunities for Master's scholarships are available via applications to the JAE Intro Call (CSIC) or Ikasiker call (the Basque Government), amongst others.

Funding opportunities for Ph.D. students are available via local and national entities (e.g., the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), the Basque Government, CAIXA foundation, Spanish Government) and European Ph.D. training programmes.

Interested in joining? We encourage you to check the Research lines and contact the respective group leader to discuss the further steps.

Postdoctoral Research

Instituto Biofisika welcomes highly motivated and qualified candidates for postdoctoral research. If you are interested in joining us we encourage you to check out our Research Laboratories and contact the respective group leaders to discuss options.

Available positions/calls at Instituto Biofisika can also be found in the Join us section.

In addition, there are a number of local and national competitive fellowship opportunities for junior and senior postdocs, including Ramón y Cajal fellowships, Juan de la Cierva Formación and Incorporación grants, as well as postdoctoral fellowships from the UPV/EHU and the Basque Government.

Furthermore, other international organizations also offer opportunities for postdoctoral fellowships, such as a the long-term fellowship from FEBS (The Federation of European Biochemical Societies), the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) postdoctoral fellowship, the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowship, and the Human Frontiers Science Program (HFSP) fellowship.

Faculty Recruitment

Possible routes to join the Instituto Biofisika as a Faculty member include competitive calls from Ikerbasque, CSIC and the Spanish Government, calls from the FBB, and academic positions at UPV/EHU.

CSIC holds annual calls for Faculty members recruited as civil servants at the junior and senior level. Through these calls it is possible to join the Instituto Biofisika as a group leader. To find out more about these opportunities, please visit https://www.csic.es/en/training-and-employment.

In partnership with the Spanish Government, the UPV/EHU also offers the opportunity of an initial five-year Ramón y Cajal contract for outstanding postdoctoral researchers. Following this period there is a possibility of obtaining a permanent position at the UPV/EHU to carry out your research as a group leader at Instituto Biofisika.

Ikerbasque also holds annual calls for the recruitment of Faculty members to research institutions in the Basque Country, including Instituto Biofisika. The Ikerbasque Research Fellowships offer outstanding postdoctoral researchers a five-year contract and a track towards obtaining permanent researcher positions as group leaders. More experienced researchers are recruited through Ikerbasque Research Associate, Professor and Group Leader calls. To find out more and check for open calls, please visit https://www.ikerbasque.net.
