The centre

Research at Instituto Biofisika (IBF), in partnership with Fundación Biofísica Bizkaia (FBB), focuses on advancing knowledge about the physical and chemical processes underlying biology and disease.

As a joint research centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of the Basque Country (EHU), the IBF provides a stimulating environment to train new scientists and to carry out innovative biochemical and biophysical research in a new research building with cutting-edge facilities located in the Leioa campus of the EHU. With the FBB accredited as a Basque Excellence Research Centre (BERC) by the Basque Government, the IBF and FBB partnership enjoys a strong national and international reputation.

EHU-CSIC Agreement

Through a strategic cooperation agreement between the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of the Basque Country (EHU), the Biofisika Institute (IBF) was established as a joint research institute committed to excellence in biophysics and related disciplines. The agreement provides the framework for the development of collaborative research, the sharing of infrastructures and expertise, the training of researchers, and the promotion of scientific and technological innovation for the benefit of society.
