Short bio

Gorka Basañez is a CSIC Staff Scientist interested in membrane proteins. Gorka is internationally recognized for his contributions to our understanding of the mechanisms of action of apoptosis-related mitochondrial membrane proteins. Gorka is an expert in BCL2 family proteins. Dr. Basañez carries multidisciplinary research, applying biophysical techniques to in vitro reconstituted systems. Gorka did his PhD at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and obtained Postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). His research work has been published in prestigious journals, including Cell, PLoS Biology, PNAS, and Cell Death and Differentiation. The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and the Basque Government fund his research. He has supervised 6 PhD Theses, and acted as an evaluator for several scientific journals. His line of research is integrated in the group led by Alicia Alonso.
