Marta Cascante is Full Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine, Faculty of Biology, at the University of Barcelona (UB), where she has held the chair since 2003. She directs the "Integrative Systems Biology, Metabolomics and Cancer" research group at UB's Institute of Biomedicine (IBUB) and leads a research team within CIBERED (the Spanish government's biomedical research network on hepatic and digestive diseases). She holds a degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Biochemistry, both from UB.

Her research centres on systems biology, metabolomics, and fluxomics, with a focus on the metabolic alterations underlying cancer and other multifactorial diseases. Her group develops methods for the dynamic analysis of metabolic flux and works to identify metabolic drug targets and biomarkers for disease subtyping, contributing to personalized therapeutic strategies. She is the author of more than 300 scientific articles, a founding member of the Spanish Metabolomics Society (SESMet) and the European Association of Systems Medicine (EASyM), and has supervised numerous PhD students.
