Maier Lorizate

University Lecturer
Short bio

Maier Lorizate has been a Lecturer at the UPV/EHU since 2012. She investigates different aspects of HIV pathogenesis, especially the role of the lipids and lipid-protein interactions in virus entry and morphogenesis. Maier aims to develop novel drug delivery systems and therapeutic strategies to fight or prevent HIV infection. She earned her Bachelor of Science (2001), a Master of Science (2003), and a PhD (2006) from the University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She did postdoctoral training at the University of Heidelberg (Germany), working on the dynamics of cellular membranes in the context of HIV pathogenesis, the study of novel therapies for HIV infection treatment, and the role of viral lipids in virus stability and infectivity. Since 2016 together with F.-X. Contreras, Maier has focused her research on developing novel, cutting-edge technologies to decipher in vivo protein-lipid interactomes in cells and tissues.
