Her research focuses on the structure-function analysis of P. aeruginosa effectors dependent on the Type VI secretion system (T6SS). She has a BSc in Biochemistry from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and MSc in Biomedicine from the Universidad de Sevilla. She worked at the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville, where she acquired experience in cellular biology and immunology. In 2016, Amaia joined the Structural Biology of Cancer Lab at CIC bioGUNE as a Predoctoral Fellow with a Grant from the Spanish Government and in 2019, she received a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She has a strong background in structural biology (NMR and X-ray crystallography), biochemistry and molecular biology. Before joining the IBF, she continued working in CIC bioGUNE as a Postdoctoral fellow.
